Emergency Services

Mandate

This department was created in October 2021. The purpose for this is to create a unified encompassing emergency services. These services include emergency medical first response, crisis support, fire prevention and safety as well as commercial building security.

Fire

We provides the following services:

continuous monitoring for forest fires during the dry seasons to determine fire safety risks.

residential fire support and educational information to the community of Wahgoshig First Nation.

Fire response steps:

  1. Respond to emergency fire situation (residential and land based within the AAN boundaries)
  2. Provide report for Insurance Company
  3. Meet with insurance to review site
  4. Meet with Fire Marshal to review site

Emergency First Response

First Response Team is trained to respond to medical emergencies with our emergency vehicle within the reserve boundaries to stabilize the client until a paramedics arrive by ambulance (certification does not allow us to transport) This service is funded through Health Canada. This training is brought in consistently every three years to provide us with the recruitment opportunities and First Response advanced first aid certifications. We are responsible for the health and safety of all our clients as well as making sure the emergency vehicles are fully stocked and fit for emergencies.

Crisis Response

Crisis Response provides the following services:

  1. Respond to nonmedical emergencies to assist community members by providing support such as
  2. Wellness Checks
  3. Mental Health Checks and Referrals
  4. Addiction’s Health Checks and referrals
  5. Covid Health Checks
  6. 911 if medical assist needed
  7. Escorting Clients
  8. Assist when Clients request to be present with NAPS issues
  9. Assist clients with court support (ie. Transportation if needed)
  10. Call if needed to secure police assist

Security

Security services:

  1. Ensure all commercial spaces have proper security installed
  2. Cameras and security panels
  3. Respond to alarms
  4. Issue/delete access codes
  5. Ensure issues with Security systems get addressed and fixed by our provider, respond to alarms, up to date working panels, functioning monitoring cameras, and information security.

Recruitment and Training

We have 15 new recruitments and provided training for the volunteer fire team.

Our department follows Health Canada and NAN guidelines.
